Historic House Tour October 15

On Saturday, October 15 Elise and Rob Redmond are graciously opening their home, Point O’ View, in Manchester Village for exclusive house tours as a benefit event for the Manchester Historical Society. Built in 1900, in its original form the house was known as Breezy-Bank. Sold in 1920 to Bartlett and Louisiana Arkell, the house was renamed Point O’ View. After Louisiana’s death, Mr. Arkell remarried and renovations were designed by architect McGill Smith, who also planned the Ekwanok Country Club and several other Manchester Village buildings. Mr. Arkell was a successful businessman, ultimately serving as the president of Beech-Nut Packing Company for 50 years. Growing up surrounded by art, he became an art connoisseur, filling his homes with the art of Winslow Homer, Gilbert Stuart, Frederick Remingon and others.While the house has had changes over the years, the Redmonds’ recent renovations have updated the house for contemporary family living without losing the warmth and elegance of their turn-of-the-century “cottage.” Their 10-bedroom home with additional service housing is available for you to see via pre-purchased tickets. All proceeds will support MHS as it continues to collect, preserve, interpret and present the story of Manchester, Vermont, through the research collection, exhibitions, programs, and publications.
